Hunawihr, Alsace
Hunawihr greeted us like a quiet dream. This is a village so small you could stroll from one end to the other in minutes, yet so rich in beauty it lingers in your mind for hours. Vineyards wrap around it like a soft green quilt, and the Vosges Mountains rise gently in the background, as if framing a perfect postcard.
The 14th-century Church of St-Jacques-le-Majeur stands proudly on a hill, its fortified walls telling stories of a time when this peaceful place needed to defend itself. From up there, the view is simply breathtaking - rows upon rows of vines stretching out, each catching the summer light in a way that makes you wish you could bottle the moment, not just the wine.
We wandered slowly, letting the rhythm of village life seep in - the soft chime of the church bell, the scent of ripe grapes in the air, the cheerful splash of flowers spilling from window boxes. Hunawihr doesn’t try to impress, it simply exists in its own timeless way, and that’s its magic.
