Veladouro, Douru Valley
Despite the rain pouring all morning, we made our way from Porto to the Douro Valley, with a cosy stop at Quinta do Cume for a lovely winery tour and tasting.
Feeling adventurous (and hungry), we followed their local tip and hunted down Veladouro in the little town of Pinhão which was easier said than done on a rainy day! But glad hat we finally found it. Veladouro gave us just what we needed: rustic, casual Portuguese comfort on a cold rainy day.
We shared a beautifully fresh beef carpaccio topped with shaved cheese, juicy grilled secreto ibérico dressed with herbs, and a tender local sirloin steak served simply with potatoes and salad. No fuss, just honest food and warm service, all at a price that made us smile.
