Teluk Intan (formerly known as Teluk Anson aka Anson Town) is a town in Perak, Malaysia. About one and a half hour drive from Ipoh, it is the centre of Hilir Perak district and the third largest town of Perak state. It is in this Anson Town where you can find an unique Chee Cheong Fun (CCF) dish that is filled with chopped turnip, dried shrimps and fried shallot.
Named after the same Town in Perak, Anson Town is a casual eatery along Changi Road where you can find this special Anson CCF and other Ipoh street food like curry mee, Ipoh hor fun, nasi lemak and more.
The signature Anson special rice roll($5.30) has a bouncy texture with the chopped ingredients encased within. It is served chilled and dry without any sauce. Sprinkled with toasted sesame seed and served with pickled green chili.
If you prefer your CCF wet, You can go for their other CCF options including Curry Chicken ($5.80), Curry Pig Skin ($5.80), Mushroom Minced Meat ($5.30) and the common chilli and sweet sauce ($4). I especially enjoy the pig skin as it gives a lovely chewy texture and soaks up all the curry flavour.
Still hungry or if you want something more hearty, Anson Town also features classic Ipoh and Malaysian dishes on its menu such as Ipoh Hor Fun ($6.50), Curry Mee ($6.50), Assam Laksa ($7) and Nasi Lemak ($5.30 - $6.30).
What you get here at Anson Town is more than traditional Ipoh street food staples that have been passed from generation to generation. To me, this eatery is also a representation and window into the Malaysia and Ipoh culture, preserving heritage through their food.
