Goodbye Milan, hello Orta San Giulio!
By the time we checked into our hotel, our home for the next three days, it was already past 2pm. With hungry stomachs and lunch well overdue, we asked the receptionist for somewhere nearby to eat.
Her recommendation? Birreria Il Cantuccio, a casual beer pub just across the road from Orta-Miasino railway station and within walking distance of our hotel.
No fancy dining today. Just hearty pub grub and ice cold beer. We ordered a generous spread to share - pork knuckle, ribs, beef tartare, mushroom risotto and a pizza topped with smoked salmon, rocket and creamy cheese. Nothing particularly fancy, just a relaxed afternoon with comforting food and a cold beer after our journey from Milan.
Sometimes, the best way to begin a new destination is simply to find a table, order some food and let the holiday unfold.
Lake Orta, we have arrived!
