Fabbrica Pizzeria

After a long day travelling back from Calossa to Milan, walking around Brera, climbing up to the rooftop around the Duomo and watching the city glow in the evening light, we eventually made our way to Navigli for dinner.

We ended up at Fabbrica Pizzeria, a lively and casual spot that felt just right for our final night in Milan. By then, nobody was looking for anything too elaborate. We simply wanted some good food, a bottle of wine and a table where we could sit down and replay the past few days.

We shared a few dishes including grilled vegetables and a simple spaghetti aglio e olio. Both were enjoyable, but the pizza was what I remembered most.

It had that Neapolitan style character, with a soft, slightly floppy centre and a puffy, lightly charred crust. The dough was warm, airy and pleasantly chewy, exactly the sort of texture I enjoy. Ours came generously topped with bresaola, rocket and plenty of Parmigiano shavings. Simple ingredients, but everything worked together beautifully.

After dinner, we headed back to our apartment and opened the bottle of Barolo we had bought earlier in Orta. No fancy setting, no restaurant service, just the few of us sitting around with one final bottle of Piedmont in Milan.

Perhaps that was the perfect way to end the trip.

Good pizza, good wine, good friends and one last night before reality called us home.
