We spent the whole afternoon and evening walking Guilin at an unhurried pace, letting the city reveal itself step by step. From Elephant Trunk Hill by the river to the Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas, everything felt calm and poetic. The weather turned cooler as the day went on, with soft light and gentle colours that made even simple moments feel special. It was the kind of day where you do not rush, you just walk, stop, look, and take it all in.
As we wandered along Zhengyang Road, the energy picked up. Street food stalls, little shops, locals going about their evening routines. Turning into East West Alley felt like stepping into another mood altogether. Old style buildings, warm lights, small cafes and souvenir shops tucked into corners. We stopped for 桂花糕 from a roadside stall, watching steam rise into the cool air while people queued patiently. Simple pleasures that somehow tasted better on a trip like this.
By nightfall, the Twin Pagodas lit up the lake, their reflections shimmering gently on the water. We stood quietly for a while, just watching. Guilin is not loud or demanding. It invites you to slow down, to walk more, and to feel a little lighter by the end of the day.
