Ja!mon Ja!mon, Óbidos
Tucked within the medieval town walls of Óbidos, we stumbled upon Ja!mon Ja!mon, a cosy spot that celebrates the flavours of Spain and Portugal with a cheeky name and a hearty spirit. We were starving after the morning drive out from Douro Valley, so we dived right into an impromptu tapas feast with no regrets!
The prawns were juicy and aromatic with garlic and herbs, perfect with crisp toasts and a good squeeze of lemon. The red wine–braised beef cheeks were melt-in-your-mouth tender, intensely flavourful and soulful. We also had fried codfish croquettes, buttery clams, house-cut potato skins, and a cheeky little orange-hued pudim for dessert, best chased with an espresso.
Bellies full, we spent the afternoon wandering the cobbled streets of Óbidos, soaking in the charm of this picturesque hilltop town with its whitewashed houses, flowering vines, and centuries-old walls. A delightful detour that made the journey even more memorable.
