Just a short walk from our apartment in Gyeongju, we found Judon (주돈), a popular local Korean BBQ restaurant known for its premium unmarinated pork and specialty cuts. It is also a favourite among travellers looking for gluten-free friendly options, as the meats are served without marinades, allowing their natural flavours to shine.
We ordered a selection of pork cuts, grilled them over charcoal and wrapped them with fresh lettuce, perilla leaves and the usual assortment of banchan. Every bite was juicy, flavourful and beautifully caramelised. We also enjoyed a refreshing bowl of cold noodles to cut through the richness, before finishing with grilled kimchi fried rice, a fitting finale to an excellent meal.
What surprised us most was how affordable everything was. The prices were remarkably reasonable for the quality of the ingredients. Without a doubt, this was one of my favourite meals in Korea.
