Le Bon Funk

We wanted a simple sandwich lunch but somehow ended up at Club street and stepped into Le Bon Funk (LBF). In the end we still had our sandwiches, gourmet style.

We enjoyed their cedar jelly and foie gras toast ($18/2pcs). Toasted milk bread spread with sweet cedar jelly and topped with heapful of shaved frozen foie gras. Simple, balanced and elegant. The signature toast has been a hit on the restaurant’s menu from day one, but it was the beef tongue and gribiche sandwich ($26) that won our hearts. Generous portion of thinly sliced briny beef tongue was sandwiched between a mayonnaise-style French gribiche sauce with crunchy pickled cucumber and mustard and thick slices of housemade toasted buttery brioche. Shiok!

Stuffed zucchini flowers with hazelnut vinaigrette ($21/3pcs) pales in comparison with the sandwiches.

The dessert, sweet potato mochi with brown butter and mascarpone ($10), needs special mentioning. Chewy sweet potato mochi (like Chinese glutinous rice balls) topped with rich mascarpone cream and shaved frozen brown butter. Love the texture and flavour combination.

Overall the menu at LBF is interesting and comprises of mainly small plates using quality ingredients in unique form and simple presentation that complement their good selection of natural wines.
