This Shui Jing Pau (水晶包) was one of my must-haves whenever I visited the old Tiong Bahru Market decades ago. When I moved to Tiong Bahru, I thought I could have them more regularly only to find out that the stall had relocated to Alexandra Village.
The dumpling skin is chewy yet so thin that you can see through it to the delicious filling inside. They still offer the savoury turnip, the sweet red bean paste and yam paste fillings but on this day we were told that only the savoury flavour was available.
This heritage Teo Chew kueh is hard to find nowadays and is at a high risk of slowly dying out. So grab them whenever you are in the vicinity.
