Au Quai De L'Ill, Strasbourg

We spent the day wandering around Petite-France, soaking in the beauty of timber-framed houses, cobbled lanes and flower-laced balconies. Just as the afternoon heat started to kick in, we settled down for lunch at Au Quai De L'Ill, a French Brasserie right by the water and bustling with energy.

We started with salmon ceviche and beef tartare, both fresh and well-balanced. But the tarte flambées stole the show. The traditional one came topped with cream, bacon, onions but we added extra cheese, while the other had smoked salmon and red onions. Crisp, light, and incredibly satisfying - perfect with a chilled Alsace Riesling and an ice-cold beer.

To end on a sweet note, we had the pistachio crème brûlée, creamy with just enough crunch from the caramelised top and chopped nuts. A very pleasant lunch under the canopy of summer trees, watching the world go by in this fairytale corner of Strasbourg.
