After lunch, we made our way to Quinta da Regaleira, one of Sintra’s most enchanting and mysterious estates. Tucked within lush gardens and centuries-old trees, this place felt more like stepping into a fantasy novel than a historical site.

The Initiation Well was both haunting and awe-inspiring, spiralling deep into the earth with a sense of ritual and secrecy. It is said to have been used for Masonic or Templar initiation ceremonies, and standing at the top peering down, it’s easy to imagine how such legends began. The moss-covered stone and eerie silence made the descent feel almost meditative until we exited into a tunnel that looked like it led straight into Middle-earth.

And then, as if the estate wasn’t magical enough, we came upon the palace itself. It looked like something straight out of a gothic fairy tale with ornate towers, intricate stone carvings, and spires reaching into the blue sky. Hard to believe it was once someone’s home! We lingered there for a bit, soaking in the grandeur and snapping one too many photos.

Sintra continues to surprise us at every turn. And Quinta da Regaleira is definitely one for the books.
