Speisekneipe, Frankfurt
Our first stop in Frankfurt - straight from the airport to Speisekneipe, skipping even the hotel check-in. This cosy spot tucked in a quiet neighbourhood felt more like a wine bistro than a full-on restaurant. The wine list was impressive, with bottles not just from nearby Alsace but across Europe. We ordered everything on the petite menu (yes, everything), and soon the table was a garden party - beetroot, lentils, leeks, carrots, lettuce, zucchini. Only two dishes featured actual meat: pork tongue and a beautifully cooked trout.
I could not say I totally loved the food as I am definitely more team protein but the vibe made up for it. Charming outdoor tables, a slow golden sunset, clinking glasses, and happy chatter from nearby diners. It is the kind of place where you linger over a bottle (or two), and where the food plays a supporting role to the company and wine. Not a bad way to begin a summer holiday.
