Lunch in Heidelberg was as German as it gets - hearty, meaty, and washed down with handcrafted beer. We stopped by Vetter’s Alt Heidelberger Brauhaus, a traditional brewery restaurant that has been around for decades. The place serves its own house beers, so naturally we had to try a tasting flight. From light to dark, each glass had its own character, and it was fun comparing notes at the table.
Food-wise, it was all about comfort and tradition: crispy pork knuckle falling off the bone, sausages piled high with sauerkraut, roasted meats, schnitzel and meatloaf on potatoes, and even wings for good measure. It was hearty, generous and full of character, perfect for sharing. A fitting stop in Heidelberg before continuing our journey.
