Aris Restaurant, Santorini

After freshening up at Agali Houses, we took a leisurely stroll from Firostefani to Fira for dinner at Aris Restaurant. Perched on the cliffside above the old port, the restaurant enjoys sweeping views of the caldera and the twinkling lights of Santorini as evening approaches. The temperature had dropped noticeably after sunset, but the outdoor setting remained wonderfully comfortable, helped by the heaters placed thoughtfully around the terrace.

The meal started with warm, fluffy pita bread, followed by baked feta, smoky melitzanosalata and crispy tomato fritters served with tzatziki. For mains, we shared a comforting seafood linguine loaded with shellfish, creamy ravioli, slow braised lamb shank, grilled sea bream and a perfectly charred T bone steak. Simple Greek flavours, hearty portions and honest cooking made for a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

What impressed us most, however, was the hospitality. During service, a waiter accidentally dropped a wine aerator into one of our wine glasses. It was a minor mishap and honestly not something we were concerned about, but the team insisted on replacing the wine and surprised us with a complimentary bottle. A small gesture perhaps, but one that reflected the warmth and generosity we experienced throughout the evening.

As rain began to fall outside and the cool evening breeze swept across the caldera, we lingered a little longer over our wine, soaking in the atmosphere. It was a lovely way to end a long day of hiking from Fira to Oia and back, with good food, good company and one of the most beautiful dining views in Santorini.
