CENZO
We visited CENZO recently to check out their lunch menu. The latest F&B outlet at Club Street is the brainchild of Australian chef Drew Nocente, the former chef-owner of the now-defunct Salted & Hung.
Born in Australia of Italian ancestry, the chef has created a menu that reflects his Italian heritage while also incorporating a modern Aussie vibe, a blend of tradition and modernity.
Starter selection on the $35/++ set lunch menu includes whipped ricotta on a bed of chopped pear and tomato, endive and fennel salad, grilled squid and beef tartare (+$5).
We had the refreshing endive and fennel salad. The purple endive leaves are crunchy with a slight bitter taste. The fennel keeps its crisp structure, even when thinly sliced. The orange provides acidity and zing. A ladies’ starter.
Squid must be cooked fast over high heat to achieve the right tenderness which is achieved here with charcoal grill and served with garam and aioli sauce. It is a simple dish but it captures the essence of coastal Mediterranean cooking
There are also 4 choices for the main course - Clam spaghetti, chicken Milanese, porchetta sandwich and petite tender (+$10).
Chicken Milanese is a classic Italian dish. Thin slices of chicken breast are breaded with seasoned breadcrumb mixture then deep fried until crispy and flavourful. The chicken cutlets are served with load of fresh cherry tomatoes and parmesan.
Spaghetti pairs particularly well with shellfish, particularly clams. Here seaweed and pancetta are added to the crustacean-laden spaghetti. Briny seaweed elevates the umami taste while the pancetta adds another layer of flavour to play in the pasta dish.
Although not as exciting as their a-la-carte menu, the set lunch menu is uncomplicated and has something for everyone.
