The quest for the perfect bowl of Curry Chicken Noodle is akin to a culinary treasure hunt, one that led me to a remarkable find while shooting an episode of the "Old School Detective" food show last year. I had the pleasure of sampling three famous bowls, two from Hong Lim Food Centre and one from Beach Road. The one that won my heart (and stomach) was this bowl from Da Po.
The chicken is tender and the curry gravy is a flavourful symphony, with each spice playing its part. They are the only stall that adds crushed peanuts into the curry gravy, creating a nutty undertone that complements the dish beautifully. It is like discovering a hidden layer in an already intricate tapestry of flavours. Then comes the dried pig skin. This humble ingredient soaks up the curry like a culinary sponge, adding a texture that is both surprising and delightful.
Ok I know that my love for this bowl is as subjective as it gets. Some might disagree, and that's the beauty of food - it is a personal journey. But for me, this is my top curry chicken noodle in town. No contest. No doubt.
Cheers to finding your own favourite!
