Ashley and Audrey took over the kitchen this Sunday, and I gladly sat back to be served for once. Dinner turned out to be an unexpected mix of flavours from everywhere, and nowhere in particular.
Concia di zucchine, with thinly fried zucchini tossed in mint, garlic and a splash of cherry vinegar, laid over whipped ricotta. Clams in burnt leek cream sauce, full of briny sweetness. Lemongrass chicken thighs with lime, and a hearty bowl of miso orzo with fennel and snap pea to tie it all together.
I couldn’t quite tell what cuisine this was meant to be - Italian, Thai, Japanese? But honestly, it didn’t matter. What mattered was watching them having fun in the kitchen, laugh, taste, adjust and create together. A lovely reminder that food made with joy always tastes right.
