HENRI

A good breakfast fuels you up and gets you ready for the day.

So we start this Friday morning with some good tasting pastries and bread at this French boulangerie located in the central business district at the junction of Telok Ayer Street and Pekin Street.

HENRI is both a French bistro and boulangerie. The boulangerie operates from 8am to 4pm while the bistro opens for lunch and dinners until late.

Out of the different breads I have tried, my personal favourite is the Almond Croissant ($4.50). The buttery and flaky pastry is filled with a delicious rum-infused almond cream and topped with generous amount of sliced almond. Really nice to go with a cup of your favourite hot drink. The regular croissant ($3.50) pales in comparison.

I enjoy their butterhorn ($3.70) too. The heart-shaped pastry uses the buttery croissant dough and has a cinnamon crumb topping that adds extra tasty flavour and texture.

If you like savoury bread, you would want to try their Bacon Jam Focaccia ($7.10). Similar to pizza, the round focaccia flat bread is baked with smoky bacon jam, onions and cheese as toppings. Portion is good for sharing.

The newly-opened bakery is popular with the working crowd in this business, going by the steady stream of customers at the counter picking up pastries and coffee for breakfast. I will find some time to check out their bistro menu soon.
