Another Sunday, another excuse to cook up a little feast. I called this one my “rojak” dinner – not quite local, but definitely a joyful mix of favourites from different corners of the world.
We had Vietnamese Lemongrass Pork Chops – juicy, caramelised edges, the fragrance of lemongrass clinging to the meat. Spanish Gambas al Ajillo – prawns sizzling in garlicky olive oil, the kind of dish that makes you mop up the sauce with anything you can find.
Then there was Japanese baked sweet potato, golden and fluffy, topped with brown butter and generous pearls of ikura – savoury, rich, and just a little bit indulgent. Korean Jumeokbap rice balls – these are the kind of things you cannot stop popping into your mouth. Seasoned just enough to be addictive.
We rounded it off with broccolini sautéed with garlic and lemon. A little freshness, a little crunch, to balance out all the bold flavours on the table.
It was never about sticking to a theme. It was about making what the family loves, and sitting down to enjoy it together. Sometimes, that is the only theme you need.
