JK Burger

While his day job is a Managing Director for one of the biggest Global Custodian Bank, JK's passion is burger, smashburger to be exact. The burger fanatic spends his free time experimenting with burger recipes at home, inspired by burgers he has enjoyed all over the world. From the potato buns, custom blend beef patties to his special sauce, JK makes everything from scratch himself.

Smashburgers are created when the beef is smashed into a hot griddle, creating a crispy outer layer while the fat has nowhere to go but back up into the patty, meaning the beef is being cooked in its own juice.

Encouraged by family and friends, JK recently started taking orders for his handmade smashburgers via a monthly pop-up from home under the label - JK Burger.

JK currently makes 2 types of smashburgers for his monthly pop-ups. The Double Cheese Smashburger ($16) and “The Motz” ($18). Both come with double smashed beef patties, homemade potato buns, cheddar cheese, special sauce and pickles. “The Motz” is a homage to the Oklahoma Fried Onion burger legend, George Motz @motzburger . While the rest of the ingredients are similar to those in his Double Cheese Smashburgers, to create “The Motz”, generous amount of thinly-sliced onion is smashed into the beef to allow the onion to caramelise in the beef fat while the patty cooks.

While JK aims to demonstrate and share his passion for smashburgers to as many people as possible in the coming months, he can only focus on 30 burgers for each pop-up to ensure quality. Full details of the next service can be found on his @jkburger.sg Instagram account.
