I finally made it to Godmama at Parkway Parade with my colleagues for a weekday lunch. This was my first visit to any of their outlets, so I went in with an open mind. Mall restaurants can sometimes feel a bit commercial and predictable, so my expectations were modest. Godmama surprised me. The food felt honest, generous and cooked with real care.
We started with Ngoh Hiang which arrived crisp and yummy. A fun sharing dish that disappeared quickly.
The Babi Pongteh pork belly was soft and full of flavour, slowly cooked in their homemade bean paste stew. The gentle sweetness of the sauce and the potatoes soaking everything up made it instantly comforting.
Beef Rendang was rich and aromatic. Thick gravy, tender beef and enough spice to keep every bite interesting. It was the kind of dish that makes you reach for more rice without thinking.
Sambal Sotong was bright and lively. A mix of heat and sweetness, and sotong cooked just right with a nice bounce. It lifted the whole table.
Sayur Lodeh was mild, creamy and familiar. Soft vegetables in a fragrant coconut gravy that reminded me of simple home meals.
The Nasi Kerabu brought colour and freshness. Blue rice, herbs and sambal coming together in a bowl that tasted as good as it looked.
Desserts made the ending even sweeter. The Sticky Red Date Pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and longan tea glaze was warm and fragrant. The pulut hitam panna cotta was smooth and comforting.
For a place I had never visited before, Godmama exceeded my expectations. A generous and satisfying lunch with colleagues. I am already thinking of bringing my family to their Funan outlet which is closer to home. I think they will enjoy it as much as I did.
