La Petite Taverne, Mykonos

Our first dinner in Mykonos was at La Petite Taverne, a charming traditional Greek restaurant tucked within the maze of whitewashed streets of Chora.

After arriving from Naxos and settling into the island, we decided to keep things simple before heading to the famous Kato Mili windmills for sunset. Sometimes the best travel meals are not the fancy ones, but those that let you slow down and soak in the moment.

The meal was classic Greek comfort food. Tender grilled octopus paired with creamy fava puree, shrimp kritharaki cooked in a rich seafood broth, juicy pork souvlaki, grilled beef, fresh greens dressed with lemon, and a generous Greek salad. Honest food, hearty portions and flavours that felt wonderfully familiar after days of island hopping.

A glass of chilled white wine, good company and the warm afternoon sun filtering through the taverna completed the experience. Nothing complicated. Just simple Greek cooking done well.

With dinner finished, we made our way towards the iconic windmills to catch our first Mykonos sunset. A beautiful start to our time on the island.
