Lyra

Right underneath the Acropolis, tucked within the charming neighbourhood of Plaka, we found ourselves slowing down at Lyra after a long morning wandering through the ancient ruins and little white lanes of Anafiotika.

The setting was exactly what we needed. A shaded courtyard, soft breeze, cold wine and simple Greek food done with care. Nothing overly fancy, just honest cooking that let the ingredients speak for themselves.

The creamy dip disappeared quickly with the warm pita. Traditional cheese pie with sesame and honey truffle was soft, fluffy and addictive. The grilled pork Tomahawk was smoky and juicy while the beef tartare and moussaka reminded us how satisfying traditional flavours can be when executed well.

Athens can feel hot and busy under the afternoon sun, but lunch at Lyra felt calm and unhurried. One of those meals where good food, tired legs and good company somehow come together perfectly.
