For cyclists, by cyclist.
Located at the Leng Kee car showroom belt, Musette is a newly-opened bicycle-friendly bistro that serves western brunch classic with Asian flair.
Traditionally, musette bags carry food and replenishments for cyclists on long races. Team members hand these bags to their racers in "Feed Zones" and the racers quickly transfer food to their jersey pockets or consume their lunch in a hurry, all while still pedaling.
Musette, the bistro, aims to be the place where cyclists can catch up with friends and meet others who share the same passion over good coffee and good food.
I really enjoy the Ebi Katsu Sando ($20). The star of the Japanese-style sandwich is the thick homemade prawn patty, which is covered in panko breadcrumbs and deep-fried and sandwiched with Tobiko egg mayo and Mentaiko shredded cabbage. The Sando is sliced into halves and served cut-end-up for maximum visual impact for the camera.
While the Sando excites my palate, my girl's favorite dish is the Mushroom Orzo Pasta ($22). The rice-shaped pasta is cooked with mushroom in a cream sauce and served with sous vide egg, fried kale, parmesan and pine nuts. A very balanced and hearty one-dish meal on its own.
The Beef Burger ($26), however, pales in comparison. While the bioche bun and spiced Kombu Mayonnaise are quite delightful, the momemade beef patty lacks the "beefy" flavour. Disappointed as this is supposed to be one of the Chef's signature items on the menu.
The calamari ($15) side dish should be standard frozen item from food supplier, nothing to shout about.
Hits and misses at this new F&B outlet based on this visit and the dishes we ordered but the bistro does offer something cool and different in this Leng Kee car belt and the neighboring Redhill estate.
