Dinner at Remvi came with the sort of view that makes you pause halfway through conversation. Perched high on the cliffs of Firostefani, the caldera slowly turned gold as the sun disappeared behind the Aegean, painting the sky in soft shades of orange and pink. One of those Santorini evenings where everyone naturally starts speaking a little softer while staring into the horizon.
The food, unfortunately, did not quite rise to the same level as the scenery.
The grilled vegetables and prawns were decent enough, and the lamb shank was hearty in that comforting Greek holiday sort of way. But overall, the portions felt surprisingly small for the prices being charged, especially by Santorini standards where tourist markups are already expected. The octopus tentacle arriving dramatically plated on a huge serving plate turned out to be almost comically tiny. Nicely charred, yes, but the presentation felt far grander than the actual portion itself.
What made the evening unintentionally entertaining was the captain, who seemed determined to recommend every expensive item on the menu with relentless enthusiasm. “Trust me, it’s very good,” became the running joke at our table by the end of the night. After a while, it started feeling less like hospitality and more like a hard sell.
Still, not every memorable meal needs to be about outstanding food. Sometimes it is the laughter around the table, the fading sunlight over the caldera, and the shared jokes about the dinner itself that stay with you longer. For sunset views, Remvi certainly delivers. For the food, perhaps trust the scenery more than the sales pitch.
