Ristorante Atlantikos

One of our most memorable lunches in Athens came with a small mistake.

The Tans had discovered Atlantikos a day earlier and kept telling us we had to try it. Fresh seafood, local atmosphere, very affordable prices. So after a long morning exploring Athens, all of us happily made our way there for lunch.

Only problem? We walked into the wrong restaurant beside it.

Nobody realised at first. We sat down, ordered food and after a while, quietly looked at one another wondering why the meal did not seem to match all the glowing reviews we had heard. Let’s just say Mikraki was not the Atlantikos experience we were expecting.

So we paid up, laughed at ourselves, and crossed over to the correct restaurant next door.

And immediately, things felt different.

Atlantikos was buzzing. Tiny narrow alley, tables squeezed everywhere, waiters moving quickly between customers, tourists and locals all mixed together. We had to wait quite a while for a table because the place was packed. Always a good sign.

The seafood was exactly what we were hoping for. Big juicy prawns fresh off the grill, sweet mussels swimming in garlicky broth, beautifully grilled squid, seabass, and simple boiled greens finished with olive oil and lemon. Honest cooking with fresh ingredients. Nothing overly fancy, but deeply satisfying.

What I liked most was the atmosphere. Plastic chairs, paper menus, bottles of cold white wine appearing everywhere around us. The kind of place where conversations become louder as the afternoon goes on.

We enjoyed it so much that we went back again the next day to pack food before dinner.

Sometimes the wrong turn during travel ends up becoming part of the story. And honestly, that little mistake made our Atlantikos lunch even more memorable.
