This was one of the surprise find of this trip. The hidden Izakaya is located off a small lane in Nachikatsuura town at the very south of Wakayama Prefecture.
We were driving around looking for a lunch place after visiting Nachi Falls and selected Tairyou from the list suggested by our good friend, Google.
The random pick turned out to be one of my most enjoyable meals of the trip. Do not be fooled by the sheepish surrounding, the Izakaya was packed with locals when we stepped in, an early good sign that we were at the right place.
The friendly family-run eatery serves impressive home-style Japanese lunch sets that are pleasing to the eyes and stomach. Oh and pocket-friendly too.
I really enjoyed the Teriyaki Chicken set. The skin was pan-fried to a crackly crispy texture; the meat juicy and filled with the sweet and savoury flavour of the Teriyaki sauce. Topping the rice bowl with a sunny egg yolk and served with many other home-prepared side dishes makes the dish looks even more mouth-watering.
The hosts are very friendly although they do not speak a word of English. We had such a cheerful conversation (with the help of Google Translate!) and I could sense their pride and joy in what they do.
Make this your dining destination when you visit Nachi Falls.
