It is always encouraging when a restaurant delivers a great experience on the first visit. Even better when it does so again! Back at The Laurus Table, the signature Italian restaurant at The Laurus, Resorts World Sentosa, and I was once again impressed by both the food and the warm, attentive service.
We opted for the 4-course set dinner at $88++, which I genuinely think is excellent value considering the quality of ingredients, generous portions and presentation.
We began with two seafood starters. Crudo di Tonno Mediterrano featured thinly sliced sustainable bluefin tuna with shaved fennel, orange, Kalamata olives, citrus-infused olive oil and a delicate balance of Mediterranean flavours. The Panzanella di Polpo was a more rustic affair, bringing together slow-cooked octopus, traditional panzanella salad and candied lemon mayo. Beautifully presented, with contrasting textures and colours.
For the next course, we shared Scialatielli ai Frutti di Mare al Cartoccio, pasta sautéed with mixed seafood in a rich tomato and seafood sauce. A hearty dish packed with seafood flavours. The Pizza al Frutti di Mare, topped with marinara sauce, calamari, octopus and shrimp, came with a beautifully puffed, lightly charred crust. A lovely combination of seafood and freshly baked pizza.
Our mains were equally satisfying. Astice alla Catalana featured Boston lobster with yellow tomato and orange dressing, pickled red onion, celery and organic basil oil. A refreshing Mediterranean interpretation that allowed the lobster to take centre stage. The Costolette di Agnello featured oven-roasted Australian salt grass-fed lamb chops with bell pepper purée, roasted spring onion, black olive accent and mint. The lamb was beautifully pink in the centre, exactly how I enjoy it!
Desserts were Crostata della Costiera, a hazelnut tart with baked ricotta cream, candied pear and milk chocolate ganache, and Delizia al Limone, a classic Amalfi Coast dessert featuring limoncello-soaked sponge cake, lemon cream and glaze. The latter immediately reminded me of Cédric Grolet's famous hyperrealistic fruit pastries. A playful presentation that brought a smile to the table.
Two visits, two impressive experiences. What I appreciate about The Laurus Table is how it balances refined Italian cooking with generous portions and genuinely welcoming service. At $88++ for four courses, this is one restaurant where I feel you get more than what you pay for. And that is always a good reason to return!
