If you are on the hunt for that old-school vibe that takes you back in time, you must make your way to the newly renovated Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. Thanks to a friend who knows the ropes of this area, I got to indulge in a bowl of wonton mee that screams nostalgia.
The thinly sliced char siew, adorned in retro red food colouring, immediately transports you to simpler times. While it might not satisfy those of us craving fatty, top-grade char siew, it holds its own nostalgic charm.
The noodles are springy, perfectly cooked, and every bit as good as you'd hope. The plate also serves up a double delight of wontons, both boiled and deep-fried, each offering its own comfort and crunch.
Though it may not become my go-to for wonton mee, especially given my penchant for gourmet char siew, this place is perfect for a quick nostalgia fix. Sometimes, it's the simple, old-school dishes that make the meal memorable.
