It is school holidays now, I decided to treat my family to a delightful dinner at Wooloomooloo Steakhouse, conveniently located on the 3rd floor of Swissôtel The Stamford. With its cosy dim-lit interior, stacked firewood decorations, and a captivating view of the Padang, the restaurant exuded a warm and inviting atmosphere. The open kitchen added an element of excitement, allowing us to catch a glimpse of the skilled chefs at work.
Wooloomooloo Steakhouse is renowned for its selection of premium Australian and USDA-grade beef. Eager to sample their offerings, we started our culinary adventure. While the complimentary onion focaccia left us desiring more depth of flavour, our appetites were quickly revived with the Australian Wagyu carpaccio. The herb crust, notably heavy on thyme, added a delightful twist to the tender meat, which was further complemented by the generous sprinkling of Parmesan and the freshness of rocket leaves.
Continuing our gastronomic journey, we opted for the Pan Seared Hokkaido Scallops wrapped in applewood smoked bacon, served on a bed of mango chutney. The scallops were incredibly fresh and flavourful, but I must admit that the "grassy" taste of the Alfalfa sprouts on top didn't quite align with my palate. Nonetheless, my young boy found solace in the rich and indulgent Truffle Mac & Cheese and the delectable Jumbo Lump Crab Cake.
For the main event, we savoured the 200-day grain-fed and 4-week wet-aged Australian Porterhouse steak, as well as the 300-day grain-fed and 4-week wet-aged USDA prime rib eye. It was evident that Wooloomooloo Steakhouse takes great pride in their culinary expertise and commitment to quality. Both cuts were masterfully grilled to perfection, boasting a juicy and succulent texture that left us craving for more. The steaks were served with four different kinds of sauces and three choices of mustard, allowing diners to customize their flavour experience. While some may appreciate the variety, I personally believe that a good steak needs no additional condiments, as the natural beefy flavour is enough to satisfy my palate.
As we concluded our meal, we indulged in a selection of desserts. While the Creme brulee's slightly over-burnt sugar imparted a bitter note, the chocolate lava cake and the bread and butter pudding were a true delight, satisfying our sweet cravings with their decadent flavours.
Overall, our dining experience at Wooloomooloo Steakhouse was thoroughly enjoyable. The cosy ambiance, impeccable steaks, and an array of appetizing dishes delighted our taste buds and created lasting memories. Though there were a few minor setbacks, the restaurant's commitment to quality and their expertise in grilling steaks shone through. It's safe to say that Wooloomooloo Steakhouse is a fantastic choice for a memorable family dinner.
