龙秋生餐馆

After visiting 银子岩, our guide suggested that we stay put in 荔浦市 for lunch. He said if we wanted to understand this town better, we should eat what they are most proud of - Yam.

荔浦 is famous for its yam, and you see it everywhere once you know what to look for. Along the roads, at small stalls, and even stacked quietly in storage rooms. We were brought to 龙秋生餐馆, a very local place, simple and unpretentious, known for their 荔浦芋头鸡.

The dish arrived in a claypot, still bubbling gently. The chicken was cooked until tender but not dry, soaking up all the savoury sauce. The yam was the real star. Soft, powdery and almost creamy, breaking apart easily with a spoon. The chicken and yam worked beautifully together, each making the other better. Comforting, hearty and very satisfying after a morning of walking through caves.

We ordered a few other home style dishes to go with it. Simple stir fried vegetables, humble plates that felt like something you would eat at a family table. Nothing fancy, no dramatic flavours, just honest cooking done well.

What surprised us most was when the owner invited us to take a look at their storage room. Inside were piles of harvested yam, stacked neatly and quietly waiting their turn. It felt grounding to see where the food really came from, beyond the plate.

This meal was not about impressing. It was about place, produce and people. After 银子岩, this lunch made our visit to 荔浦 feel complete.
