Frankfurt am Main

A short stroll from Römerberg took us to the Eiserner Steg, the iconic iron footbridge spanning the Main River. We took our time soaking in the views with love locks clinging to the railings, boats cruising gently below, and the contrast of old-world charm against Frankfurt’s glassy skyline.

There was something quietly romantic about standing there together, among hundreds of padlocks left by couples from all over the world. Whether or not you believe in locking up love, the view from the bridge is certainly worth pausing for.

Just across the way, we stumbled into an LGBT demonstration - colourful, spirited, and peacefully marching through the city streets. The flags, music and energy brought the neighbourhood alive. Later, we wandered into a nearby park and spotted locals gathering for picnics, birthday parties, or just a lazy afternoon under the shade. Frankfurt felt unexpectedly relaxed for a big city- calm, open, and full of everyday life unfolding in simple, beautiful ways.
