Le Petit Bidon, Colmar

We reached Colmar and made a beeline for Le Petit Bidon for lunch. Luckily we had booked a table, as the place was buzzing and walk-in customers were being turned away. The outdoor seating offered comfortable views and a lovely atmosphere to relax in this charming town.

We started with Oeufs en Meurette - soft poached eggs swimming in a gentle red wine sauce, alongside a creative dish of aubergine caviar paired with shrimps à l’asiatique. It was an intriguing introduction to the meal.

For mains, we sampled Norwegian cod in lemon sauce that felt refreshingly light, a beautifully stuffed zucchini that was both satisfying and inventive, and grilled Iberian pork pluma that had just the right hint of smokiness.

Our meal was paired with a brilliant Josmeyer Gewurztraminer Libre Sous Le Ciel, a dry maceration wine of finesse and moderate extraction, which truly elevated the flavours. We liked it and made a note to visit the winery on one of our upcoming days in Alsace. An afternoon well spent in Colmar!
