Yes, Mehlwassersalz is definitely one of the cafes in Frankfurt that is getting plenty of buzz and we were curious enough to check it out ourselves. Housed inside the Museum für Moderne Kunst, the space is modern, light-filled, and effortlessly stylish. We came after our morning stroll through Kleinmarkthalle and joined the line that had already started forming outside.
We managed to get a spot indoors and ordered a small feast: the classic sourdough croissant, a pistachio version with a generous crumble topping, a charred sourdough pizza with tomato and burrata, a spinach omelette with crème fraîche and chives, and a striking sourdough pancake topped with strawberries and vanilla pumpkin seed cream.
Everything looked beautiful and was nicely executed, though I would not call it mind-blowing. The bakes were well-crafted, and the presentation was certainly photo-worthy. My favourite? Probably the pistachio croissant which was rich and nutty without being too sweet. The pancake was also a fun twist, more of a dessert than breakfast, really.
A cool spot to visit if you are into cafe culture with a modern twist. Worth a stop if you are already in the area especially for coffee, a light bite, and a stylish pause in the day.
