A Memorable Father's Day: A Feast of Love and Flavours
This Father's Day was a truly special one, filled with love, heartfelt gestures, and a culinary adventure prepared by my three kids. As we eagerly awaited my wife's arrival, Ashton had the brilliant idea of washing and polishing the car together, creating yet another bonding moment, while Ashley and Audrey started the preparations for my Father's Day dinner.
Upon picking up my wife from the airport, the anticipation grew as we headed home, eager to see what the kids had prepared for our evening feast. To my delight, they had gone above and beyond, crafting an exquisite Mediterranean Mezze dinner that surpassed all expectations.
The highlight of the evening was the innovative Baba Ghanoush, a dip similar to hummus but made with smoky eggplant. The kids took it a step further by serving it in the eggplant "shell" and garnishing it with fresh grapes and roasted sesame seeds. The combination of creamy, silky, and smoky flavors, beautifully presented, made it a standout dish and the perfect accompaniment to the other Mezze delicacies.
Another delightful surprise was the refreshing plate of torched brown butter peaches and grilled Halloumi, served on a bed of orange yogurt with a drizzle of spiced honey. The vibrant colours and harmonious flavours of this dish showcased their culinary creativity.
The mezze meal continued with pesto hummus, accompanied by grilled brussels sprouts, merging classic flavours with a unique twist. The pistachio-crusted lamb chops were tender and succulent, elevating the meal to new heights and the grilled prawns with feta, asparagus, and red onion, was a harmonious combination of flavours that delighted the senses. Each bite was a burst of freshness and complexity.
As I savoured each dish, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of joy and pride. Not only had the kids surpassed themselves in the kitchen, but they had also created a feast that was delicious and a true testament to their love and appreciation for their dad.
