Reconnecting with old friends is much like uncorking a matured wine - it gets better with time. At Clan 7, a modern Chinese restaurant nestled in the casual embrace of NTP+ Mall at Lorong Chuan, this sentiment could not ring truer.
The majestic slab of Black Angus Tomahawk was grilled to a tantalizing char, yet yielding pink tenderness within. Its robust flavours heightened by the mere simplicity of its preparation. It was a dish that stood on its own, rendering the accompanying pepper sauce somewhat unnecessary.
Then came the Charcoal Pomfret Steamboat, a dish that brought the sea to the table with its fresh pomfret swimming in a pot of aromatic broth. The ensemble of cabbage and yam submerged within was not only a feast for the eyes but also for the palate, with each spoonful evoking the essence of comfort food.
The scallop with broccoli, while competently prepared, did not ascend beyond the ordinary. It was a dish that, like a middle chapter of a book, added substance but not surprise.
The meal overall? Decently enjoyable, with no dramatics, served in an environment that mirrors the cleanliness of its flavours. A noteworthy mention must go to the wine policy - the first bottle of BYO uncorked without charge.
