Celebrating 44 years of friendship with an old pal.
We first met each other when we were enrolled into the same preschool, less than a month after my mum passed away. For a 5 year-old kid who had just gone through such a traumatic experience, I felt insecured and anxious especially in a totally new environment. Thanks to a very kind and thoughtful teacher (林老师) and this chubby boy whom I became good friend with, I slowly opened up.
We attended the same primary school after preschool and were grouped in the same class for all six years. A lot of time was spent together everyday after school climbing trees, catching spiders and doing all the fun stuff boys our age did.
Although we went on different paths after that (different secondary schools, I attended JC and the local university while he took the polytechnic route and later studied abroad), we were still able to stay in touch in those days before smartphones and social media by getting together during each school break to check in on each other and renew our friendship.
Despite our busy schedules, we have always made time and effort for each other over the years, and we will always be there for each other at all of our life's major milestones.
Friendships like ours are like diamond - Timeless, rare and unbreakable. So it was only natural for me to plan a catch-up lunch with such a diamond friend at the Diamond Kitchen, a gem restaurant that I have been patronizing since its inception in 2012.
I always feel comfortable at Diamond Kitchen - Clean and simple interior setting, friendly service, delicious and unpretentious food. You can always trust their signature dishes like Gan Xiang Crabs, Superior Chicken Soup, Saltes Egg Sotong and Lala Beehoon for a good meal.
But for my diamond friend, I ordered something slightly more lavish this time. Cheers to our diamond friendship.
