Founded by the same people behind the classic French bistro Joséphine at Amoy Street, LouLou French cuisine and wine bar at Keong Siak focuses more on Southern French and cross-cultural Mediterranean cuisine.
I felt very comfortable the moment I stepped into the restaurant for the first time. The interior of the 50-seater restaurant is cozy and has a combination of classic and modern elements. Timeless full-height stone wall with a mix of wood and rattan furniture and lights. Moroccan pattern tiles add some character to the naked concrete flooring in the dining hall and provide contrasts to the hexagonal honeycomb tiles in the open kitchen. Pastel blue fabric sofa seats, cushions and sideboard evokes serenity and refreshment, softening the overall touch of stone and wood. It is like bringing Heaven and Earth together to create a harmonious dining space.
Pocket-friendly set lunch menu starts from $28 (2 courses - Starter + Main or Main + Dessert) to $32/38 (3 courses).
The Andalusian Gazpacho was very enjoyable especially in our Singapore hot weather. The cold soup here is not as viscous and has a slightly brown hue compared to the usual bright orange that we are more familiar with. You can taste pepper, tomato, vinegar, olive oil and lots of basil. Garlic croutons, mini cucumber cubes and red radish slices provide crunch to the refreshing soup.
Sobrasada croquettes are risotto-based croquettes stuffed with Spanish cured sausage meat, which gives the tapas dish a deep and unmistakably porky flavour. Served with spicy tomato-based sauce, parmesan and rocket leaves, a real delight to get your meal going.
Tight and meaty white flesh of monkfish is sometimes compared to lobster meat. Here the white meat is marinated with herbs and spices, skewered and grilled until slightly charred on the outside and just cooked inside. The kebab is presented on a wooden board with a serving of pilaf rice and parsley garlic dip - Delicious and fun to eat!
Another fun dish is the stuffed calamari “A La Provençale”. The Mediterranean-style squid is packed with a filling of seasoned minced pork, chorizo, and spinach and grilled over charcoal fire. This is also served with pilaf, a beautiful and filling main dish.
Table wine by the glass starts at $12 for a glass of Prosecco and $13 for a glass of rosé, white or red. This is really a pleasant surprise, knowing the markup of wines by most restaurants these days.
Richard and Jeff, who were extremely friendly and approachable, ensured that we had excellent service throughout our meal.
My new favourite casual dining establishment gets my two thumbs up!
