Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜

What started as a humble eatery in Chinatown back in 2009 has now grown into 15 outlets across Singapore, bringing authentic Hunan flavours to the heartlands. Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine is all about bold, fiery, and satisfying dishes, and we found exactly that at their Bedok outlet - a casual yet comfortable space perfect for a hearty lunch.

We kicked things off with their signature Hunan-style stir-fried pork. Thin slices of pork wok-fried with fragrant Shandong green chillies. The heat was just right - spicy enough to be exciting but not overwhelming. The dish had that unmistakable wok hei, and the crunchy, slightly smoky chillies balanced the richness of the pork beautifully.

Then came the Golden Broth Sour and Spicy Fish, arriving in a steaming claypot, its bright yellow broth glowing under the lights. One sip, and we were hooked. It was tangy, mildly spicy, and deeply savoury from the mix of pickled vegetables and dried chillies. The fish was silky and tender, soaking up all that citrusy-sour goodness, making it the perfect match for a bowl of rice.

To round out the meal, we had the Pumpkin Shrimp and Tofu Stew, a comforting dish that was mellow and creamy, with a natural sweetness from the pumpkin. The soft tofu and plump shrimp added a nice contrast, creating a smooth, almost luxurious mouthfeel. A great balance to the other two punchier dishes!

Every dish was served over a table warmer, keeping the flavours hot and intense till the last bite. Service was attentive, and the place was clean and comfortable, making it a great spot for a fuss-free yet flavour-packed meal. With a commitment to quality ingredients and authentic Hunan cooking, Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine has certainly made its mark in Singapore’s food scene.

If you are looking for a hearty, home-style Hunan feast that brings big, bold flavours right to your neighbourhood, this is one to add to your list.
