Abundance has been our family’s go-to spot for Taiwanese street food for years. Quality, consistent, and always satisfying. So when we heard that the Century Square outlet rolled out four new dishes, we didn’t even think twice, we went down for dinner that very night.
First on the table was the XL Crispy Pork Chop Rice ($13.90). The moment it landed, I knew this one would be dangerous. Huge, crispy, and juicy all at once. The pork chop can easily be eaten on its own, damn shiok already but the real star was the rice. Tossed with pork lard and their homemade sauce, every spoonful was rich, flavourful and comforting. Add a runny fried egg, blanched greens and crunchy pickles… wah, that balance of fatty, savoury and tangy just hit the spot. My favourite of the night.
We also tried the Spicy Sesame Dumplings ($10.90) - think of their original 红油抄手, but with an extra layer of creamy sesame sauce. Plump dumplings, spicy kick, nutty finish. Very addictive.
Their Taiwanese Oyster Omelette ($15.90) was interesting too. Different from our Singapore version, this was more a homogenous pancake. It was gooey and tender on the inside, with a crisper texture on the outside, and is not broken up during cooking. The pancake was served with a thick, sweet, and slightly savoury sauce. The oysters were huge and juicy, which got everyone’s attention.
To complete the meal, Winter Melon Pork Ribs Soup ($13.90). Ah Boy claimed this immediately as “his”. Herbal from dang gui, soothing, and the pork ribs were first deep-fried before boiling, giving them a unique bite even though they were very soft. A warm bowl that rounded off the meal nicely.
Another satisfying visit, and happy that our favourite hangout continues to evolve with new dishes yet still keeps the heart of Taiwanese comfort food on the table.
Abundance indeed.
