Some restaurants impress you with new dishes. Others draw you back because of how they make you feel. For me, Butcher's Block has become one of those places and when wife's birthday came around, it was one of the first places that came to mind.
Since this was a return visit to the very same menu, I will not go through the dishes again. The food was every bit as enjoyable as I remembered, but what stood out even more this time was everything around it.
The dining room carries a quiet confidence. There is no unnecessary theatre, no loud distractions. Just a warm, intimate space where the focus remains firmly on the food, the wines and the people you are sharing the table with. The open kitchen adds a sense of energy to the room, while the glow from the wood fire seems to anchor the entire experience.
What makes Butcher's Block special for me is not just Chef Jordan's cooking philosophy of whole animal butchery and respect for ingredients. It is the hospitality that accompanies it. Throughout the evening, Chef Jordan and his team moved through the dining room with genuine warmth, engaging guests without ever making it feel rehearsed. There is an ease and sincerity that cannot be taught.
As the meal unfolded, conversations flowed effortlessly, wine glasses were quietly replenished, and the evening settled into that comfortable rhythm that all memorable celebrations seem to find. It was exactly the sort of atmosphere we wanted for this special day. No grand spectacle. Just excellent food, thoughtful hospitality and precious time spent together.
With the Spring IMUA menu now coming to a close and the team taking a short break before unveiling their Summer menu, this felt like a fitting way to bid farewell to a menu we have thoroughly enjoyed. Not many restaurants can make you happily return for the exact same experience twice in a matter of weeks.
We certainly did.
Thank you Chef Jordan and the entire Butcher's Block team for another wonderful evening. We are already looking forward to seeing what surprises the Summer menu will bring.
