After a hot morning on Delos, none of us had much appetite for a heavy lunch. What we really wanted was shade, cold drinks and something easy to share.
Captain's, right by the Old Port of Mykonos, was exactly what we needed.
The first thing to arrive was an ice cold beer, which tasted far better than it probably should have after hours under the Greek sun. A glass of chilled white wine followed, and suddenly everyone looked much happier.
Lunch was simple and relaxed. We shared a seafood platter loaded with grilled squid, prawns, octopus, fish and fresh salad. Everything tasted fresh and lightly cooked, letting the natural sweetness of the seafood shine. We also ordered a flaky cheese pie drizzled with honey, a classic Greek combination of savoury and sweet that disappeared surprisingly quickly.
The meal was not about fancy cooking or elaborate presentation. It was about slowing down, escaping the heat and enjoying good food with good company.
