Cheval Chi Bao 赤宝

I was not expecting a Chinese restaurant in a public swimming complex, let alone a very decent one.

We tried some of their signatures and chef's recommendation and were pretty impressed.

Pi Pa Tofu in vibrant golden pumpkin sauce ($16.80) was very well executed. Not just aesthetically pleasing, the seafood tofu was soft and delicious and the pumpkin sauce was perfect to go with rice.

Braised pork belly ($26.80) was melt-in-your-mouth tender and soaked up the red wine and soy flavour. Another dish for the rice.

They offered eight ways to cook the whole red snapper ($36.80) but we were recommended to have it steamed and serve with their homemade assam sauce. Mildly spicy, acidic with a sweet note. This is again a very appetizing dish with rice.

But in the end, we did not go for white steamed rice but their signature truffle fried rice ($13.80) which was fluffy and had a depth of flavour and richness.

Under the same roof as the Chinese restaurant is Cheval Cafe, Bar & Bistro which is operated by the same management. If your group wants variety, you can order from the bistro menu too.
