Griglia Open Fire Italian Kitchen II

We went back to Griglia at Craig Road recently for a wine dinner. It was nice stepping into the familiar space again, the kind where you know the evening will be easy and unhurried. The meal began with little snacks to wake up the palate. Crisp bites topped with mortadella mousse, a plump prawn salad balanced with ikura, and a light parmesan sable with tomato. They looked dainty and set the tone well.

The scallops that followed were fat and sweet, paired with smoky eggplant purée and roasted tomatoes. Then came the lamb shank ravioli, rich with pecorino and truffle, hearty enough to feel like proper comfort food. Of course, the highlight on paper was the bone-in ribeye, charred and resting on a bed of rosemary, carved and plated simply with broccolini. It was satisfying, the kind of steak that makes you pause between mouthfuls to talk with the people at your table. We ended with a small cheese selection, just enough to close the evening on a savoury note.

Overall, the dinner was pleasant and nicely put together. Each course had its strengths and the service was warm throughout. While nothing particularly surprised us this time, it was still a comfortable evening with good food and good company, the kind of dinner you are glad to have revisited.
