Tucked away on the second floor of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy, Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant feels like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. With its understated elegance, the recently refreshed interior blends modern lines with soft tones, offering a tranquil escape from the busy East Coast neighbourhood. Round tables are dressed with minimalistic settings that lend a touch of tradition within a contemporary space. It is comfortable, chic, and just intimate enough for a special gathering or a quiet lunch.
We kicked off our meal with their Peking Duck, and it didn’t disappoint. The duck, beautifully roasted to a deep amber, arrived glistening with the promise of that perfect crispy skin. Skilfully carved at the table, each slice of skin was crisp, delicate, and paired with soft egg crepes, crunchy cucumber, and spring onion, making every bite a textural delight.
As the meal continued, familiar favourites kept appearing, each thoughtfully prepared and beautifully plated. The prawn rolls were golden and crunchy, a nostalgic bite that didn’t skimp on flavour. The claypot tofu, warm and comforting, came bubbling in a rich sauce, absorbing all the earthy notes from mushrooms, roast pork and fresh greens. The steamed fish, tender and silky, was subtly seasoned, letting the freshness of the fish take centre stage.
Braised bee hoon wrapped in opeh leaf brought an unexpected rustic charm, while the fried rice, a golden mountain speckled with egg and spring onions, was the ultimate crowd-pleaser, full of wok hei and simply irresistible.
If you are seeking refined yet accessible Chinese cuisine on this side of town, Jia Wei is a standout. Unassuming yet impressive, it is a spot worth remembering when you are in the mood for familiar flavours done just right.
