Le Soulier
Le Soulier in Toulouse provided a lovely lunch experience with a friendly atmosphere and good value for its €25 three-course menu. While it was enjoyable, it was definitely not in the out-of-this-world category.
The entrée du jour, a gravlax of Pyrenean trout with mascarpone cream and paprika-dusted chips, was fresh and pleasant, though not particularly striking. The Entrée de Noël (+€2), a decadent polenta and truffle cream topped with olive oil-cured egg yolk and hazelnut lace tuile, brought a festive flair and a bit more sophistication to the table.
For the mains, the Plat du jour featured a hearty roast veal accompanied by herbed bulgur, thyme-roasted vegetables, and a classic mustard sauce, comforting and well-executed, though not especially innovative. The Plat de Noël (+€3), a medallion of yellow pollock with trumpet mushroom risotto, orange-glazed carrots, and scallop siphon, had a more creative edge and offered a refined mix of textures and flavours.
Dessert was a strong finish. The palet breton with tonka bean cream and poached clementines was delightfully buttery and citrusy. For an indulgent touch, the Dessert de Noël (+€2) - a choux filled with white chocolate ganache and praline, paired with opaline caramel was festive and satisfying, though a tad on the sweet side.
With attentive service and a lively vibe, Le Soulier is a charming spot for a leisurely lunch in Toulouse and worth a visit for its thoughtful menu and warm atmosphere.
