LUMBRE

Spanish restaurant, Lumbre, is the latest addition to the wide array of restaurants at CHIJMES.

The casual eatery is currently offering a $35 2-course set lunch menu. Most of the dishes are cooked in their open wood-fire grill and Josper charcoal oven with an add-on option of coffee and dessert for $5 extra.

Stuffed piquillo pepper with cod fish is served with a bright and colourful platting. The mashed cod filling tastes like brandada - a traditional Catalonia fish spread with lots of Mediterranean flavours.

The grilled cauliflower is well charred on the outside but slightly undercooked inside, to my disappointment. The raisin and pomegranate seeds give the dish a sweet refreshing touch while the black tahini sauce adds a nutty flavour. Vegans would love this dish.

Padron peppers are wonderful sides for the dry-aged ribeye (add $30 for 2 pax). The ribeye is not of the best quality but there is something about the flavour you get from cooking steak over open wood fire that cannot be duplicated using any other cooking method. Shiok!
