Magnum Gold

A Magnum gold champagne of elegance and purity for the birthday girl!

This extraordinary Cristal is not just one of the age-worthy champagnes in the world but also one with an interesting origin and history.

The Cristal was created in 1876 by Louis Roederer at the request of Alexander II of Russia. He was a fan of Louis Roederer Champagne and approached the Maison to create a special one using grapes from the best plots for his personal consumption. As Russia was not in a stable state and Aexander II feared assassination like many of the Russian Emperors before him, he asked that each champagne bottle be made of clear crystal instead of dark glass so that he would be able to spot any poison added to the champagne. He also requested that the punt (the deep indent at the base of champagne bottle) to be replaced with a flat bottom so that no bombs could be hidden in the punt. And so the finest and iconic gold label Cristal was created.

When the Russian monarchy came to an end following the Russian Revolution in 1917, Louis Roederer decided to continue producing this champagne, the summit of quality for the house, and it was eventually commercially released in 1945.

Today the Cristal is still being bottled in these traditional "Assassin-proof" bottles and remain one of the finest and luxurious cuvee of such royal standards.
