Penang Chulia Street

Penang has a way of pulling you into its irresistible charm the moment you arrive. After a quick check-in at the hotel, we wasted no time and dived straight into the heart of its culinary soul – Chulia Street.

The aroma of sizzling woks filled the night air as we sat down for a hawker feast under the glow of streetlights. Char Kway Teow, smoky and rich with its perfectly charred rice noodles, plump prawns and lup cheong. The rojak brought a symphony of textures and flavours – juicy fruits like mango and jambu, crunchy peanuts, and the sweet-tangy prawn paste sauce. The golden brown Lor Bak with the five-spiced pork filling was pure indulgence. And the cuttlefish kang kong sweet and savoury. For dessert, freshly made Apom rounded off our stop at Chulia Street with its warm, fluffy goodness.

It was not just the food. It was the atmosphere – the clatter of woks, the chatter of diners, and the feeling of being part of something timeless. Chulia Street was alive, bustling with energy and a love for food that was contagious.

With hearts full of joy and still some empty space in our bellies, we were now heading to Kimberly Street for round two of this Penang culinary adventure.

Who says you can’t have it all in one night?
